A Tooth Story

As school picture day approached Robin Hill Elementary school, Mrs. Connor announced that there would be many empty spaces in their picture. Now Mrs. Connor was not referring to an absence of students, she was referring to the absence of teeth, which were now somewhat creepily hanging on the wall in the classroom. Emma lost three teeth when she fell off her bike, and Reza lost four with a pair of pliers. Ayanna, the lucky child, lost six teeth when her brother dared her to eat rocks, but poor Jaime was still a baby and had lost no teeth at all.

“Say what,” exclaimed Jaime, “How you be losing all them teeth?”

Every night Jamie stared at those pearly whites just wondering, really wondering, ‘how oh how can I lose these teeth?’ He tried pressing on them, but not a budge. He then tried to punch himself in the face, but hit himself in the nose instead. Jaime even went to the garage to find his dad’s hammer before his mom caught him in the act.

“I am happy that you have a nice, toothy smile for your class picture,” she said pretending not to know what he was up to.

“Yea whatever,” Jaime replied as he wondered if not brushing his teeth that night would cause his teeth to fall out.

Unfortunately for Jaime, the next day was picture day. Everything was awful until they went outside for recess. Then…Jaime had an idea. He saw Emma chasing Nick as Nick screamed, “No I will not be your boyfriend!” Nick wasn’t looking. It was like Jaime could see what was going to happen before it actually did. Jaime dropped what he was doing and made a beeline right for Nick. KABLAM! Jaime ran right into Nick, embedding three teeth in Nick’s forehead.

Months later while looking at his class picture, Jaime realized that Mrs. Connor was right; there were a lot of empty spaces; except in this picture the empty spaces were in Jaime’s mouth and Nick’s forehead.

THE END…of baby teeth!
